Coin Grading System
A commonly accepted coin grading system is evaluating the coins by sharpness of detail. Mint state and uncirculated are used to describe coins without trace of wear. Here are some typical coin conditions:
MS-70: perfect new condition, the finest quality possible, with no evidence or scratches, handling, or contact.
MS-65: above average uncirculated coin that has little contact marks on the surface
MS-63: the item has some visible contact marks and blemishes.
MS-60: the item has a lot of contact marks.
Here are some grading terms you will often see: Basal State (also Poor (PO)), Fair (Fr), About or Almost Good (AG), Good (G), Very Good (VG), Fine (F), Very Fine (VF), Extra Fine (EF or XF), Almost or About Uncirculated (AU), Uncirculated (Unc) and up to Brilliant Uncirculated (BU).
